Gloucestershire Old Spot/ Berkshire Shares

Gloucestershire Old Spots are a beautiful heritage breed pig! They have a wonderful balance of rich, flavorful meat and healthy, creamy fat! Berkshire

Pork has a reputation for being some of the best and most flavorful in the world.

Together, we try to achieve a balance of tender, delicious meat and clean, healthy fat! All of our pigs have acres of wooded pasture to roam. The only time they are inside the barn is when they first come to the farm in the early spring. Inside the barn, they are given a large space to live while they are still young and while it's still cold outside. We only feed them organic, Non-GMO, No-Soy feed.

Healthy Fat Matters

We care about our pig's fat quality as much as we care about the quality of the meat! This is because their fat is healthy AND delicious when the pigs are raised right. While the pigs are outside, they help us to clean up the pasture. They have fresh forage all season long, as well as acorns in the late fall. The acorns have tannins that help keep the fat from going rancid while it stores. They are fed a custom organic grain mix that we mix ourselves to ensure that there is no soy in any of their feed. Having no soy maintains the fat quality because soy turns fat rancid and bitter. All of this work is done in an effort to help everyone utilize the entire pig.

Why Shares?

We're so glad you asked! We sell our pigs in shares because of many reasons. We want all of our customers to know up front that we are not selling you meat. We are selling you a live pig. We deliver the pig, along with the cut sheets you fill out at the beginning of the season, to the butcher when it's time for harvest! This helps us ensure that you pay a much better price for pasture raised, Non GMO fed pork!

Remember, it's your pig. We are just raising it for you!

Education

We live in a society where the knowledge of old skills and practices is quickly being forgotten. As a farm, we are constantly trying to expand our knowledge when it comes to the way we eat. It is important for us to not just understand HOW to grow food, but WHY. Our hope is that we will be able to help you learn through classes, workshops, and other resources, so that we may grow and learn together as a part of a community that strives to change the world one growing season at time!
